ABYC Introduction to Marine Accident Investigation
When: October 18 - 21, 2011
Where: NTSB Training Center, 45065 Riverside Parkway, Ashburn, VA 21047
The Introduction to Marine Accident Investigation class will be conducted at the NTSB facility in Ashburn Virginia in the National Transportation Building. This class is open for registration by calling Sandy at ABYC or on the ABYC website. To sit for the certification exam, both classes are necessary.
These classes are intended to fill a void in the educational offerings for the recreational boating industry. No current class exists for civilian investigators to learn the techniques skills and knowledge of the Accident Investigation profession. This class was co-developed in cooperation with the US Coast Guard to create a standard for civilian accident investigators.
The curriculum is divided into two classes; Introductory, and Certification. The large amount of curriculum developed necessitated the development of both classes. The upper level class will culminate in a 200 question certification exam. It is suggested that applicants for this class have a thorough understanding of ABYC Standards and at least 3-5 year’s experience in a marine technical field.
