If you are a Boatyard, Boatbuilder or Marina trying to be successful in this economy paying attention to Environmental, Health & Safety Regulations has become even more important than in recent years. In 2008 a new Administrator of OSHA was appointed, our new Administrator is claiming that the OSHA we have not seen in 20 years is back...I think with a vengeance. From 2008 to 2009 OSHA inspections increased by 167% and they continue to climb. In tough economic times they have hired 30 new enforcement officers and transferred 30 employees from the consultation programs to enforcement. The fine structure has also changed, fines now pack a little more impact, and a serious fine now fetches about $7,000.00. If an Inspector sees an employee at your facility on the deck of a boat (out of the water) without Fall Protection, it could cost you $7,000.00. Paperwork, training, accountability and basic site safety have you inspection ready. During this webinar we will review the items that are easy for you to fix and just how to stay on top of compliance so that you can limit your liabilities.  ABYC Member $49.00  Non-member $99.00

The Latest on Ethanol and New Research on Isobutanol (Butanol)
This is an update to what I wrote several years ago on Ethanol. See Much Ado About Ethanol. New research on the affects of ethanol on marine engines has been going on under the sponsorship of NMMA,  ABYC,  BOATUS, and others.   Some of this is a breakthrough.  Isobutanol has been found to be an excellent replacement for ethanol, and has none of the drawbacks.  It doesn't damage engines and tanks, and doesn't degrade engine performance.  More testing needs to be done but this is very encouraging. The EPA may allow usage of Butanol as an alternative to Ethanol.  But rather than try to summarize them here I am going to provide links to the articles.
