 Workshop on Problem Solving
                   Presented by David Veech
      IBEX 2012, Louisville, Kentucky
October 1, 2012 / Noon to 4:00 p.m.
"Any time something happens that we don't expect, we have a problem," says David Veech of The Lean Institute (Louisville, Kentucky.) At IBEX 2012, Veech will present his four-part system for dealing with the unexpected, and coming out ahead of the pack. Targeted specifically at the marine industry, Veech's workshop is sponsored by MITEC (Marine Industry Training and Education Council).

As a member of MITEC, and a top consultant in lean manufacturing, Veech is well aware of the concerns of boatbuilders, repair yards, and other related businesses. "There is no shortage of problem-solving processes," he says. "What's missing seems to be discipline (the stick-to-it kind, not the punishment kind)."

To help organizations and individuals move forward with solutions both large and small, Veech has developed his C4 approach: Concern, Cause, Countermeasure and Confirm. "This system enhances people's ability to think critically--and to diagnose and solve problems." Veech has designed MITEC's afternoon to teach participants the skills they need to put these problem-solving concepts to work immediately.

The first hour of the workshop, however, will be an opportunity for participants to find out how MITEC is changing and growing as it becomes a membership organization, rather than an appointed board.

The cost for the four-hour workshop is $75, which includes membership in MITEC for calendar year 2013, a box lunch, and a copy of Veech's book on the C4 Process.

MITEC is also sponsoring six IBEX seminars dedicated to workforce development and training issues, as well as an exhibitor workshop being offered to encourage networking among marine-industry professionals involved in training, education, and workforce issues.
